Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

IMPROVE website search rankings and BOOST website traffic with SEO

What is SEO? SEO stands for ‘Search Engine Optimization’. It’s the practice of optimizing your web pages to make them reach a high position in the search results of Google and other search engines. If you have a website and you want to improve ROI and website traffic, it should be part of your marketing efforts.

How can I check and improve my SEO?

Many factors go into optimizing a website to improve its search rankings. These factors are constantly changing as Google’s algorithms, and search engine’s technology, evolves with modern trends.

A couple of things you can do immediately to improve SEO are:

  1. Include Page Titles and Descriptions! Every page should have a good title and description with meaningful keywords. Yoast or RankMath are a couple of my go-to WordPress plugins that make this process easy and they are definitely well worth the yearly cost.
  2. Have a Fast Website! Did you know that 15 seconds is the average time spent on a website? Capture your visitors attention and convert them to leads before they bounce! You can use Google’s Page Speed Insights tool and the GT Metrix tool to run free reports on your website performance. The results will provide plenty of information regarding additional measures you can take to optimize your website.
  3. Optimize Your Images! Keep your website running fast by resizing images to what you actually need to use. For example, you don’t need a 2500px image if you’re using it in a 300px element! Also, whilst you’re editing the image, make sure the names of the images are meaningful, ie. “McKinder-web-design-logo.jpg” instead of “IMG1234.jpg”. Including keywords in the image filenames will help boost your SEO.
  4. Good Hosting! The server with your hosting provider can be the culprit of many server related slowness issues. I offer hosting with great performance; if you need to switch hosting, get in touch and I’ll help walk you through how to make the switch.
  5. Optimize Code! There are several things you can do to optimize the website code, e.g. removing unused Javascript and CSS, and there are many WordPress plugins out there that can help you out… BUT… make sure you choose a reputable plugin and always take a backup of your website before fiddling with code or using plugins that may alter the code. My maintenance plans can assist with the backups and updates to ensure nothing breaks when changes are made.
